Ensure connector quality, connector performance

At this stage, the product quality of connector manufacturers is uneven. If a company wants to find high-quality and inexpensive connector products among many well-known brands of connectors, it must address three key performances of connectors, namely mechanical performance, electrical equipment performance and environmental performance. These three properties are important to endanger the quality of the connector, and the key to solving the problem is to ensure the quality of the connector.
1. Mechanical properties.
Mechanical properties are the equipment life of the connector. The service life of mechanical equipment is actually a kind of durability index value. It takes the engagement and separation as the circulatory system, and it is based on whether the connector can normally carry out its network control (such as contact resistance value) after the standard engagement and separation of the circulatory system.
In terms of networked control, the insertion force is a major mechanical property. The insertion force is divided into the insertion force and the extraction force (the extraction force is also called the separation force), and the requirements of the two are different. In the relevant specifications, there are requirements to limit the insertion force and the minimum separation force, which means that from the application point of view, the insertion force is small (and thus has a low insertion force LIF and no insertion force ZIF construction), If the separation force is too small, the stability of the contact will be compromised. The insertion force and mechanical service life of the connector are related to the coating quality (rolling friction index) of the contact construction (positive pressure) and the precision of the contact layout specification (direction).
2. Electrical properties
Contact resistance (current), grounding resistance and compressive strength, etc.
①Contact resistance High-quality connectors should have low and stable contact resistance. The contact resistance of connectors varies from a few milliohms to tens of milliohms.
②The grounding resistance accurately measures the performance of the contact piece of the connector and the insulating layer between the contact piece and the casing, and its magnitude varies from hundreds of megohms to more than one thousand megohms.
③ Withstand compressive strength or working voltage, and material compressive strength, it is the endurance of the rated value of the test working voltage between the contact part of the connector or the contact part and the casing.
④Electromagnetic interference leakage loss is a comment on the actual effect of the connector’s electromagnetic interference shielding.
3. Natural environment performance.
Common natural environment properties include resistance to high temperature, water, corrosion, vibration and shock.
①At this stage, the limited operating temperature of the connector is 200°C (except for very few high-temperature unique connectors), and the minimum temperature is -65°C. Because the amount of current in the connector during operation causes heat generation at the contact point, resulting in temperature rise, it is generally believed that the operating temperature should be equivalent to the sum of the operating temperature and the temperature rise at the contact point. In some standards, it is expressly stipulated that the connector can limit the temperature rise under a stable operating current.
②Waterproof intrusion will affect the performance of the insulating layer of the connection h and corrode the metal material components. The standard for stable cold-humidity experiment is 90%~95% air humidity (up to 98% according to the product model), temperature +40±20℃, and the experimental time is according to the requirements of the product, the minimum value is 96 hours. The alternating cold and wet experiment is more severe.
③ When the corrosion-resistant connector is in a working environment with moisture content and salt, electrochemical reactions may occur between its metal components and the contact surface treatment layer, which will endanger the physical chemistry of the connector and the performance of electrical equipment. The salt spray test requires the resistance of the connector to these conditions, and the salt spray test is required. The connector is suspended in a temperature-controlled test box, and a specific concentration of sodium chloride solution is sprayed with air compression to generate corrosion-resistant air, and the exposure time is at least 48 hours.
④Oscillation and impact Resistance to vibration and impact is the key performance of the connector, which is very important in unique application scenarios such as aerospace, railway lines and road freight, and is the main indicator to detect the firmness and electrical contact stability of the mechanical system of the connector value.
